SECTION 2: Hellspawn Identification

Definition: Any entity created by Lucifer, the Prince of Hell.

Classification: Hellspawn are ranked according to cunning and lethality, in ascending order. Higher levels fiends and Fallen are considered the most dangerous.

GRADE ONE FIENDS
Picture
Name: Biblio-Fiend
Nickname(s): Little Pisser, One
Description: 3-5 inches tall with chocolate brown skin, pointed ears and tail.
Demonic Activity: Destroys books, urinates frequently, prone to expletives. Most dangerous in bookstore and library settings though has been known to target private book collections.
Deviations: Reports indicate that the average height of these fiends has now reached 5-6 inches.

Picture
Name: Klepto-Fiend
Nickname(s): Magpie, Hell’s Cat Burglar
Description: 3-4 inches tall, light brown skin, small horns, pointed ears and pointed tail. Unlike some fiends the hands do not have claws. Has small bag to carry loot and usually wears “ninja-style” clothes.
Demonic Activity: Driven to steal bright and shiny objects such as jewelry and coins. Extremely stealthy. Not known to be aggressive, though will fight to protect itself. Some activities suggest Lucifer uses these fiends as “watchers” to track certain mortals.
Deviations: A few Klepto-Fiends exhibit an obsessive trait to sort items by color, which can aid in their capture.

GRADE TWO FIENDS
Name: Techno-Fiend
Nickname(s): Geeker
Description: Approximately a quarter inch tall and nearly invisible to the naked eye.
Demonic Activity: Causes electrical shorts, corrupts computer data, misroutes emails, hijacks mainframes. Can send malware.
Deviations: Reports of increasing trolling behavior on social media.

Name: Pyro-Fiend
Nickname(s): Firebug
Description: 2-3 inches tall, red or black skin, pointed ears and tail.
Demonic Activity: Lobs fireballs. Most active in cities rather than rural locations. The age of the fiend determines the combustibility of the fireball.
Deviations: Reports indicate fiends have rapidly grown in height over the last few years. The newest estimates are 4 – 8 inches tall.

GRADE THREE FIENDS
Picture
Name: Gastro-Fiend
Nickname(s): Furball, Hell’s Swine, Three
Description: 3-5 feet tall with tan, yellow, brown or gray fur. Young fiends have one set of teeth, the more mature ones two.
Demonic Activity: Possesses a voracious appetite and will eat almost anything. Particularly fond of human flesh and fiber optic wiring. Almost any meat or poultry serves as a lure for these fiends.
Deviations:  None known.

GRADE FOUR FIENDS
Name: Hypno-Fiend
Nickname(s): Mezmer, Mezzie, Four
Description: Varies as these Hellspawn use glamour to change their appearance. Often chooses high-profile careers, those with significant influence: bankers, lawyers, talk show hosts, social media influencers, politicians, actors.
Demonic Activity: Mentally incapacitates their victim while devouring some, or all, of their life essence. Will also attempt to take victim’s soul. Can appear as a lower grade fiend.
Deviations: There has been an increase in Grade Fours making the transition to ArchFiends after they have accrued sufficient power.

GRADE FIVE FIENDS
Name: Geo-Fiend
Nickname(s): Rockers, Five
Description: 7-9 feet tall, ebony face and skin, curved canine teeth, two “bull-like” horns.
Demonic Activity: Capable of wielding freak weather (windstorms, hail, tornadoes) and localized earthquakes. Primary goal is to obtain souls but excels in infrastructure destruction.
Deviations: No changes have been seen in this Hellspawn over the past few decades.

HIGHER LEVEL FIENDS
Picture
Name: Archfiend
Nickname(s):

Demonic Activity: Dispatched by Lucifer to “retrieve” Hellspawn or Fallen who have defied him. Since Lucifer will destroy them if they fail, a Retriever will not stop until they have captured their victim.
Deviations: Unknown.

I thought pyrofiends were about the size of a medium dog?

They've usually been described as being the size of a small doll. Their first appearance in the series (Riley and Beck trapping in a parking garage) says something about the fiend slithering out of the tail pipe of a car. Apparently they've been taking their vitamins because they keep growing in height. LOL

So, first of all, the series is damned good, I have the first 4 parts and 4.5.

Now, if I want to submit pictures of my imagination of a few hellspawn, how should I do so?

Well I am planning to animate it later in the future, so I thought I would start to put it into paper how I am imagining, plus I also use help of google maps and Google Earth to imagine the places of Oakland cemetery and Edinburgh and much more.

Plus, I am having trouble imagining Stewart's house.

Eagerly waiting for your reply.

😊

Shreyash,
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the stories. It had been my plan to set up a place devoted to reader art so I’ll get that underway. I need to chat with my social media guru as to the best way to handle that.

Somewhere in my archives I have a map of Atlanta with various book-related locations indicated. Clearly I need to hunt that up. I also have a photo (not mine) of what I think Stewart’s house looks like. Let me do some digging and see what I can find.

Jana,

I am glad to hear from you.

I would like to know upto when will I be given the information (maps), plus I am still unclear about medium to send you drawings and concept arts. (Hopefully I will be clarified).

The Scottish House seems to be a wonderful maze I would like to get a picture of the fireplace room, the library, the kitchen and the turret.

I was just hoping to help upgrade the website and Demon Trappers series' popularity.

I personally think that it should be given way more fame.

Eager to hear soon,

With love from India, Lucknow.

Shreyash,
Sorry, for some reason I couldn’t respond directly to your comment.

I don’t currently have a way for you to upload any images or artwork, nor have I decided where those would be displayed (website, Pinterest etc). I need to research the copyright issues, as well as some of the other legal problems that might occur depending on where those images are posted.

I do not have interior pictures of Stewart’s house. The exterior picture I have is someone else’s. In the past I would have posted it, but with increasing photo piracy and such I’ve gotten a lot more careful with what I share online unless I have licensed the rights to do so. It’s going to take some time to get all this worked out.

I deeply understand that you are unable to send/recieve due to legal issues.

I'm totally fine with it.

Now for my part,

I just wanted to make this PARTICULAR series popular or at least trendy, because I want to share my experience and imagination of the crazy world of Riley and Beck.
Now as many people don't read books, don't even bother reading books, I just want to take this wonderful story to them, i.e. via an animation serie.
I kinda think that this is futile, but hey, what's wrong in trying (opposite to words of Yoda).

I thought I needed some help and appreciation, so I contacted you. It feels nice being heard.

As people are into supernatural and romance much like me, I thought to give it a shot to get it to them who don't like reading that much.
I will get to working on it when I have read till part 7: lost souls. Till then I will try to improve on my drawing and animation for a shot at recreating this journey. And people will know more about other books by you.

Well to conclude,
I feel good that you put in some effort for me, and I like to hear more from you about my idea to bring this masterpiece to life (well sort of). Plus I also got the vague idea of having a sly girlfriend (justine) 🙃

I love you for creating such a masterpiece. you rock!

Eager to hear more,

With love from India, Lucknow,

Shreyash & Jena,
Would copyright be satisfied by credits for artwork as a contribution? Or are we dealing with international copyright laws?

William,
My guess is that as long as I indicated whose artwork it was as well as the copyright date and a disclaimer “use with the permission of ...” I would be on firm legal footing. This is one of the things I’m researching so I don’t get blindsided by someone saying I used their artwork illegally. I want to ensure I’m not running afoul of the DMCA rules.

When i published my thesis to a journal i didn't have too many problems with illustration. Due to having posted self taken pictures. But, I always had credit given to my subjects through their research identifiers and their permission to include their likeness. Any used names were "street names".

So, is mail a viable option for sending media along with the copyright info?

Jana
2/26/2021 10:08:15 am

And once again I can't reply to individual comments. Looks like i need to check that issue out as well.

William,
Sounds like you had that covered.

Shreyash,
If you're talking postal mail, no. It's taking ages to get anything delivered right now. Once I figure out where the fan art will go I'll upload instructions on how to get it to me. I'm chatting with my social media guru today.

First of all, I was talking about EMAIL, and to send it via internet.

Secondly, what do you think about my animating idea?

Since I'm not sure where the fan art is going at this point I don't know how it's going to be submitted. It may need to be uploaded directly to another site.

As long as the animation is fan art -- not created to generate money -- I'm going to act like it doesn't exist. I have to do this because of copyright and trademark laws because legally I should tell you 'no', you can't do that. So instead I'm looking the other way like I do when someone posts fanfiction.

Jana,
Thank you for clarifying my doubt.

Well I guess I'll just make it out of fun later, just combining my two favourite things.

It was a pleasure to talk to you 😊.

I'm still confused about the colour of Riley's eyes and I want to make sure that an Archfiend has two sets of claws: hands and wings?

Riley's eyes are brown in the U.S. books and blue in the U.K.'s. The reason is the cover model used in the U.K. books had blue eyes so I changed that for those books. Either works.

An Archfiend only has one set of wings and one set of hands that end in claws. See the image higher up on this page to give you an idea of what they look like.

Hey, I have been wondering what should be the role models for a few characters... for example: I prefer Ian Somerhalder for Ori, Christian Bale for Sartael, Ewan McGregor for Lucifer and Ian McDiarmid for Harper.

well what do ya think about that.. or do ya have some else models in yer mind, Jana?

When I create a character they are not usually based on a real person. After I've created that individual then I might find photos that match my mental image of that characte, especially if that a character might be on the book's cover. I have no doubt that other authors work the other way around -- they see someone and then tailor their characters' physical attributes to match that person.

What's really fun is that each reader has his/her own version of what my characters look like. Which is rather cool, actually, since that means the reader has made those characters person to them.

I like a story even better when it runs a movie in my head. A good book as you get into it, you don't even think about the fact you're reading, it just flows.
That's what I love about the demon trapper and the time traveler series's.

I’m that way as well. I “see” my stories as movies in my head. I did a little theater back in the day and so I “block” my scenes if there’s a lot of movement (or a battle scene). I helps me keep things straight.

I have written a poem about Ori, from book 1 to 4. So, If I were to share it to you, should I comment it down here or DM you in instagram?

Probably best to DM it to me on Instagram. Ori is an intriguing character, that’s for sure. Also, when the new covers are revealed he will be on the cover of Forbidden. And, unlike in the books, he’ll have a short beard. I know that’s something you asked about in the past.

Hello, Jana. I have reread the series twice and it never ceases to amaze me. I was wondering if you could help how you got in contact with publishers or writers who would support your work. I am really confident that my works would take off. I have no experience in the publishing field though. Thanks. mad respect to you.

Shreyash,
Unfortunately I can’t help you as I am not longer working for the original publisher of the series and my editor is not longer in publishing so there is no one I can contact.

The best you can do is submit your work to reputable literary agents and if fortune smiles, they might be able to sign you to their agency. Please be very careful as there are agents and so-called publishing groups that are scams.

For more info you might check out https://writerbeware.blog/ for updated info on such things. They keep a list of publishing bad guys as well.

Good luck!
